A redesigned motel from the 1940s has officially opened at Twentynine Palms in California.
The Hotel Wren is located 10 minutes away from Joshua Tree National Park. The property was originally a roadside motel from the 1940s. It has been renovated to provide modern accommodations, while maintaining elements of its historic architecture. The hotel offers 12 rooms, all designed to fit in with the desert’s natural environment.
Hotel Wren’s redesign focused on maintaining the original layout of the motel and its architectural features such as steel casement Windows. The interior design incorporates colors and materials that are reflective of the desert, including hand-troweled walls, custom terracotta floor tiles, and hand painted tiles. The property is designed to be a peaceful retreat that encourages guests to take in the desert environment.
Each room is equipped with yoga mats and artisanal tisanes to promote relaxation and meditation. Each room has a king-size or queen-sized bed, and the other half offers a direct view of western desert. The private patios and bathtubs are also included in these rooms. The rooms with enclosed patios offer a more secluded feeling.
A lobby, with a fireplace and custom millwork, is one of the hotel’s communal areas. The lobby is intended to be a place of social interaction for hotel guests. It fosters a sense community and a connection with the desert environment. The rooms do not have televisions, which supports the theme of disconnecting from technology and embracing nature.
Windsong also houses Hotel Wren, a bodegas that sells a variety of handcrafted items, as well as objects that reflect local culture and scenery. This space is meant to continue the hotel’s commitment to supporting local artisans and connecting with the natural environment.
The Hotel Wren is a property for adults only, emphasizing peace and reflection. The hotel is ideal for anyone looking to escape the busy city and enjoy the natural beauty of Joshua Tree National Park.
