Hôtel Royal and Hôtel Ermitage, Evian Resort’s historic hotels, are pleased to announce that they have obtained the Clef Verte (Green KeyEco label is the world’s first certification for sustainable tourism in hotels and restaurants. This prestigious certification recognises the tangible actions taken by the hotel in terms of energy efficiency, waste minimisation, responsible consumption, and increasing awareness of eco friendly practices.

In a chart built around five pillars, the initiatives for the environment are outlined: Biodiversity and Resources, Sustainable Sourcing, Social Responsibility, and Energy. For each of these categories, concrete actions are provided.

    1. The creation of an ecosystem protected within the park

The 47 acre grounds are an oasis of biodiversity. The LPO (League for the Protection of Birds), an official sanctuary since 2011, is home to nesting box, insect hotels, flowering fields, and wildlife inventories. The use of pesticides is not allowed, nor is hunting. Green space that is vibrant, educational, and protected, while being in harmony with local environment.

     2. Water and waste management that is smart

Evian Resort implemented an efficient water-management system that includes rainwater collection, a weather-based irrigation system and water-saving devices and mulching in the guest rooms.
In addition, the waste is sorted and upcycled. Food waste is also composted.

     3. Green energy and responsible mobility

A large portion of the hotels’ heating comes from a district heating system that uses wood, a local renewable energy. A number of energy-efficient improvements have been made, such as the installation and upgrading of LED lighting systems, motion sensors, climate control, and insulation. Evian Resort has a fleet electric cars and bikes available to guests, and charging stations are also available.

     4. Locally sourced products

Chef Patrice Vander, who is at the helm of the Hôtel Royal’s kitchens, favours local, seasonal produce from sustainable farming. The kitchen garden, which is 3,000m2, supplies ingredients for the kitchens. Organic honey is also produced on-site. The fine dining restaurants Les Fresques Ecotable has awarded the restaurant certification for its sustainable cuisine with a strong local focus.

     5. Staff and the local community benefit from social initiatives with a lasting impact

Evian Resort is a resort that puts its people first. Regular training, a healthy working environment, and an inclusion and well-being policy are all benefits for employees. Due to its local roots, the company supports regional partnerships, short supply chain, and expertise. This contributes to social and economic development in the region.

Through these initiatives, Hôtel Royal and Hôtel Ermitage reassert their belief that luxury and sustainable development go hand in hand in shaping the travel industry of tomorrow. Being recognized Clef Verte The certification is a recognition of an approach that is deeply ingrained in the DNA of Evian Resort, which combines hospitality at its highest level, environmental responsibility, and community engagement.
