Graduate by Hilton Dallas has opened as the brand’s first hotel in Texas. The 93-key hotel, located in Highland Park and across from Southern Methodist University, features a lobby lounge and outdoor pool with terrace, flexible event space, a signature Tex-Mex Restaurant, and flexible event venues.
“Introducing the Graduate brand to Texas—one of the country’s largest and most dynamic markets—is a major milestone for us,” said Parker Henderson, brand leader, Graduate by Hilton. The property’s location in Dallas Highland Park is a perfect fit for our core values, which are lifelong learning and collegiate hospitality. The brand will also expand its Texas presence with a second property in Austin.
Lead by AJ Capital PartnersThe former Lumen Hotel has been restored by, a Nashville developer and designer. While preserving the building’s original geometric, mid-century architecture, the reimagined space features locally inspired design elements—warm, textured interiors like tanned leather and velvet sofas, cowhide ottomans, shearling armchairs and handwoven textiles.
“Bringing a Graduate to Texas—particularly in the heart of Highland Park, one of Dallas’ most storied neighborhoods—has been a longtime goal,” said Ben Weprin, founder, Graduate Hotels and CEO/founder, AJ Capital Partners. This is a place full of tradition, character and creative energy. We’re proud to bring the project to life through design, storytelling, and the nostalgic traditions at SMU.
A large-scale postcard of Exall Lake is displayed above the hand-carved desk. It features a galloping wild herd, which pays tribute to the nearby University. The large communal table with coffee counter provides a place for students, guests and locals.
Guestrooms are decorated in a mid-century style with red, blue and white. Custom pillows are embroidered with references to local artwork and the nearby university. Grasscloth wallcoverings, navy-striped beds and upholstered headboards complement each other. Custom ceramic bedside lamp and lounge chairs with bluebonnet upholstered cushions are among the bespoke details. The original tilework in all guest bathrooms was kept, and enhanced with blue accents.
Los Charros Smokehouse is the signature restaurant of the hotel. It features reclaimed wooden, patinated corrugated metal and textile elements from the lobby. A ceiling mural inspired by handwoven rugs also appears. The communal dining table is red-painted and complemented by a rustic bar with saddle-style stools. This nods to Texas ranch living.
