    Golden hour in Italy’s Dolomites

Arriving at Alpe di Siusi in the golden hour was like entering into a fantasy after a long and arduous journey from Britain. In some of Europe’s most high alpine meadows framed by the jagged Dolomite mountains glowing in soft evening lights, farmers turned hay. The hotel is a good choice. Hotel SchmungA family-run jewel with delicious northern Italian cuisine and direct access scenic hikes. Rifugios are great places to stop for lunch along the trails. This is the perfect base to explore the Dolomites. The tranquil setting, stunning views and freedom of exploration on foot are all reasons why.

Donkeys on the highest peak of Corsica

Mount Cinto, Corsica’s highest point, is accessible via a spectacular train journey from the seaport town of Bastia up to the small mountain village of Ponte Leccia. The dramatic Asco Gorge is the best way to reach it. Hikers can explore the area on donkey trails, which reveal stunning views, river pools, and abandoned villages, like Sepula. A couple of isolated campsites are located off the gorge. Halfway up Mount Cinto is a ski resort where you can do the more challenging cross island. GR20 mountain hiking path Joining is possible. Visit in late spring for the most magical experience.

We spent an idyllic week in Gornja, Montenegro. A peaceful village, 1,000 metres above the sea, with mountains surrounding it and a turquoise canyon river (the Piva), we explored. The days were warm, and the nights cool. We went for herb walks, ran around naked in the birch trees, and got coffee from the Etno restaurant. Durmitor national park. Alex, our tipper, rode a ferry along Lake Koman. Hugh Mitton/Alamy

I spent a wonderful time with my partner in the northern Albanian Mountains. From Shkodër, we made our way to the Valbona valley national park via a two-night stay on (and boat across) Lake Koman. We camped on the grounds with permission of the Valbona National Park. Hotel RilindjaWe were given a wealth hiking tips by the owner. We embarked from our base on a number of breathtaking hikes including a 3-day circular trek. Çerem. After the shepherds, we only saw a handful of hikers on the slightly more travelled sections. The views, the hospitality and the experience were all unmatched.

Mountain cabins along Sweden’s King Trail

The mountains of Nallo. Alena Vihina/Alamy

It was so breathtaking last year at the mountain hut near Nallo that I will be returning in July to stay longer. It’s about seven miles from the popular Kungsleden trail Lapland is a land of the King’s Trail (Trail du Roi). You’ll need to bring your own food or supplies as there’s no mobile signal. You can buy these at the trailheads three days away or at other mountain shelters along the route. Nallo has a lot to offer. welcoming cabin with a host (£32 for a bunk bed), cozy bunk beds and peace.

Rare flowers in the Apennines of Italy

Alpine asters in Abruzzo Nature Picture Library/Alamy

The Maiella National Park in Abruzzo is just two hours from Rome and has marsican brown grizzly bears. Abruzzo chamois While griffon vultures fly above, wolves wander. The drought-tolerant vegetation and steep-sided valleys conceal caves that were once inhabited by hermits – it was amazing to imagine what it must have been like living there. The high peaks are covered with flowering plants and rare varieties such as Apennine aster, Apennine aster, Apennine aster, Alpine aster, and dryas. I was rewarded with a panoramic view of the Adriatic Sea after exploring ancient paths and climbing up rocky slopes.

Rather than ascend the expensive and crowded Zugspitze (Germany’s highest mountain at 2,962 metres), during a summer visit to Garmisch-Partenkirchen we instead opted for a cable car up the magnificently named Mount Wank (1,780 metres). The lush meadows and the stunning views of the valley were all we needed to reward us. The sun terrace of the hotel offers a cold beer. Sonnenalm restaurant This is a must. If you’re feeling energetic, you can take the well-marked path back to town or descend on the Wankbahn.
