    Did the TSA End Their ‘Shoes Off Rule’ Security Policy?

    TSA asks passengers to remove shoes before going through security checks. A new report says that the government agency has now rolled back its mandate.

    Travelers may soon no longer have to worry about major delays.

    It is important to note that the word “you” means “you”. Transportation Security Administration According to online travel websites, the (TSA), is rolling back their “shoes-off” policy for general passengers at the security checkpoint. 

    Travel newsletter Gate Access According to reports, the TSA is soon going to allow passengers to leave their shoes at the security checkpoint. This will help reduce waiting times and move the line faster. Caleb Harmon Marshall (former TSA employee) writes in the newsletter that “the change comes after years public frustration about inconsistent airport experiences and long security lines. There is also a growing discussion over the necessity of certain screen procedures.” 

    The TSA didn’t confirm the report or provide any further details. When asked for comment, the TSA said Travel + Leisure“TSA & DHS always explore new, innovative ways to enhance passenger experience and strengthen our security posture.” We will announce any updates to the security process through official channels.

    Some travelers have shared their personal experiences on social media about keeping their shoes in through security checkpoints. The agents told me that this is a brand new rule and you don’t need to remove your shoes as long they don’t trigger the alarm. wrote on X. 

    According to reports, this policy change will only affect certain airports. Therefore, travelers should not assume that their airport is included. According to The New York TimesLaGuardia Airport, New York City is now one of those airports where travelers can keep their shoes.

    Previously, the TSA allowed some passengers to leave their shoes on during screening. TSA PreCheck members, for instance, can pass through security screening devices without removing shoes. Also, passengers over 75 did not need their shoes removed during the screening process.

    TSA introduced a new “Serve with Honor Travel with Ease”, a program that offers veterans and their families free or discounted TSA preCheck memberships.
