David Lance has been appointed General Manager of the five-star Sydney Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park hotel. Lance is a seasoned hospitality executive.
Lance has over 30 years experience in international hospitality. He was most recently General Manager of the Royal Orchid Sheraton Bangkok Riverside. Under his leadership the hotel achieved significant improvements to guest satisfaction, service delivery and financial results.
Lance, an Australian by birth, began his career in hospitality in 1995 as a Duty Manager at Four Seasons Hotel Sydney. He joined Marriott International in 2003 to become the Duty Manager of Sydney Marriott Hotel. Lance held a number of senior operational positions in Thailand including his first posting as General Manager at Marriott Executive Apartments Sukhumvit Park Bangkok.
He moved to Abu Dhabi in 2015 to oversee the pre-openings of the first Marriott Hotel Downtown, and Marriott Executive Apartments. He then took over as the Marriott Hotel Al Forsan’s CEO, where he was able to deliver record profitability and engagement results in 2022.
Lance’s selection supports Marriott’s focus on appointing experienced leaders across its luxury, premium and flagship portfolios. Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park is strengthening its position as Sydney’s premier five-star hotel. Lance will continue to uphold the legacy of this iconic property, famously marked by the ‘Angels of Hospitality’ – two bronze sculptures at the entrance by artist Stephen Glassborow, symbolising the welcoming spirit of the Sheraton Grand experience.
