The world’s cleanest swimming waters are in CyprusAccording to the report of this year, the European Environment Agency This is the EEA that ranks the most clean bathing waters.

Cyprus ranked first in both the report’s analysis of inland and coastal swimming areas, with 99.2 per cent of its 123 water samples rated as excellent. That is the highest possible rating. Tested sites included both popular resorts on the coast and less-crowded bays.

Cyprus was also ranked first in the report from last year, with 97.6 percent of its tested waters rated excellent. In the report of last year, 97.6 per cent of the tested waters were rated as excellent. The second place this year was BulgariaThird place is awarded to, with 94 water bodies being tested. 97.9 per cent were rated as excellent. Third place is awarded to GreeceThe test consisted of 1729 samples and 97% received an excellent score.

Cyprus, a country in the European Union (EU), has been divided since 1974 between its Greek-speaking southern region and Turkish speaking northern region. Cyprus is known for its archaeological sites, halloumi, and beautiful island coastline.

In a press release obtained by Travel + Leisure.

The bathing water quality of coastal sites was rated higher than that of inland waters. This is partly because many of the inland bathing water sites in central Europe are small lakes, rivers, and ponds with low flows, which make them more vulnerable to short-term contamination from heavy rains or droughts.

Even though many European bathing areas are ranked highly, there remain 332 sites (or about 1.5%) that have poor quality. However, this is an increase from 2009, when only 1.9 percent of sites were rated badly. Problems can arise due to short-term pollutants, which are often caused by heavy rains that wash waste from sewage treatment plants into the waters. Estonia, Sweden The Netherlands and France had water that was not suitable for bathing in 3 percent or higher of the tested waters. Sixty-seven sites out of 321 improved from poor quality to adequate quality in the last 12 months.
