Choice Hotels Has selected cloud-based providers Mews As a property management (A move to implement PMS for hotel franchisees in countries outside the U.S. could allow the hotel chain to capture additional revenue from non-room sources and reduce rate errors.

The partnership integrates Mews’ software with choiceEDGE (the reservation system Choice developed).

Choice has 1,258 franchised properties outside of the U.S.According to its annual report,, which represents about 142,000 rooms.

Hotel chains are looking for ways to make money other than just overnight stays. Marriott and Hilton are testing selling day passes for pools and fitness centres, while Accor is expanding co-working space within its hotels, as Skift pointed out in their megatrend.Hotels Will Start Selling So Much More Than Rooms.‘

“Ancillary revenues are no longer an afterthought for hoteliers.” It’s part of your guest experience strategy.” Margitte Verkruijsse-ReinerSkift spoke with, Mews’ senior director of property management. “Mews Spaces unlocks a property’s full potential, not just its rooms. It allows properties flexible booking options ranging from meeting rooms to co-working spaces and parking spots.

Choice has over the years developed its own software including its cloud based central reservation system and voice search optimized booking engine. But at the property level — especially across international markets — its systems have often lacked consistency.

Verkruijsse Reiner stated, “Today’s customers expect a seamless and intuitive experience. Hotel staff need tools that empower, not hinder them.” “Legacy Tech is a massive obstacle for both.”

Many hotel chains are still using outdated technology, bolted with more recent applications to manage payments in different currencies.

    Local Flexibility and Global Consistency

Integration with choiceEDGE ensures consistency of reservations, rates and inventory across all systems.

Verkruijsse Reiner stated, “All reservations flow smoothly from the CRS into Mews. There is no manual entry or mismatches in data.” “Availability rates and inventory all stay in perfect sync. This reduces the risk of overbookings or missed revenue.”

This allows Choice’s franchisees in other countries, such as Sweden-based Strawberry or Japan-based Hoshino to respond more quickly to the market, manage multiple sources of revenue and support loyalty programmes. Cloud-based software like Mews requires less hardware on-site and can be upgraded centrally. This reduces maintenance costs for franchisees.

The system allows brands to maintain brand consistency while allowing properties to make local changes.

Since its inception in 2012, Mews in Amsterdam has raised $410 million of venture capital funding.

Staying on top of the next wave.
