    Marriott Marquis Hotel Houston

Marriott Marquis Houston is the premier downtown hotel in Houston and has announced Chef Edgar Maldonado’s appointment as its new executive chef. In his new role, Chef Maldanado is responsible for the extensive culinary operations at the Marriott Marquis Houston. This includes the day-today management of five restaurants on site and 52 banquet halls, as well as ensuring that guests receive exceptional dining experiences throughout the 1,000 room property.

Chef Maldonado has over 27-years of culinary experience. Most recently, he served as Executive Chef in several Marriott properties around the country. His passion for cooking began when he was a child, while cooking with his Venezuelan mother. After moving to the U.S., he attended the Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts, in Orlando. He began his culinary career at the Sawgrass Marriott Resort & Spa, in Ponte Vedra.

“Chef Maldonado’s dedication to elevating our hotel’s food and beverage offerings with inclusive, health-conscious menus paired with his commitment to team development will be invaluable as we continue to evolve the culinary experience at Marriott Marquis Houston,” said Bernard Hamburger, Director of Food & Beverage of Marriott Marquis Houston. With six dining concepts on site, guests can enjoy Oaxacan cuisine, Spanish food, classic Southern dishes and more. Chef’s passion, mentorship and guest engagement make him the ideal fit to lead the kitchen and establish the hotel as the top destination for foodies.

Chef Maldonado will be a leader in the Marriott Marquis Houston, and his leadership will go beyond the kitchen. He plans to bring interactive culinary experiences to guests, such as cooking classes and events. Chef Maldonado will also work closely together with the Marriott Marquis Houston’s award winning meetings and events team, to ensure that each event is enhanced by high-quality, customized and memorable culinary selections.

Houston is a diverse and vibrant destination that consistently ranks among the top 10 food-centric cities in US. Marriott Marquis Houston has empowered me to shake up the dining program and add my own unique stamp,” said Maldonado. “I am looking forward to working with the team to develop innovative menus that incorporate local and cultural flavors, and deliver dining experiences guests will remember for a long time to come,” said Chef Maldonado.
