Slovenia has a variety of adventure sports and activities
Slovenia! Lake Bled was our first stop. Teenagers loved Dolinka Ziplines, summer tobogganing, hiking Vintgar Canyon and swimming in Lake Bled. You can rent paddleboards or boats. There is also canyoning and rafting for those who have the cash. We went up the Vogel cable near Lake Bohinj after seeing the Postojna Cave. The hotel offers half-board. Bohinj Eco hotel It also had an aquapark and bowling, as well as plenty of other games. The trip ended with shopping in Ljubljana, and the best ever ice cream at Romantika. Three teenagers enjoying themselves.

All aboard in The Netherlands
We loved our family trip to the Netherlands. The colourful Pride Parade in Amsterdam was balanced with a peaceful, calm visit to De Poezenboot. The teens were happy to stay in Haarlem, where we stayed in a modern apartment with fast wifi. We enjoyed morning walks through the medieval streets and walked up to Grote Markt in the afternoon for coffee.

An Italian castle at hostel prices
When I first saw the picture, Ostello il Castello di Santa Severa It’s real. I read it in the Guardian, in 2019. Our teens and friends have joined us twice. The mile-long beach is perfect for teenagers to paddleboard and explore. A quick train ride will take you into Rome. Enjoy a pizza slice with the locals while they cheer on their football team at L’Angolo delle Crepes. Also, you can sleep in a real castle for the price of a hostel. There are plenty of fluffy white towels, as well as a kitchen for those who want to cook. The nearby necropolis is a great place to have an Indiana Jones adventure. The castle was lit up by fireworks and there was a Beatles-inspired Italian cover band. ciliegina sulla torta!

Dracula and bears spotted in Romania
Romania has been the best European vacation with my teenager (sofar). We stayed in Brașov, booked an apartment with a pool and had the best time. There are so many things to do, and public transportation is easy. We ate outside at street cafes and rode a cable car, we went to see bears (up-close!We went on a treetop adventure in Adventure Park, and we visited Dracula’s Castle. The town is historical and beautiful. And the people there are always so friendly. This is not the typical British tourist destination, but it’s a great adventure.

When in Rome … take a Vespa tour!
Rome half-term in October. The Coliseum Tours and Forum Tours were a perfect balance of history, fun facts, and gore for teenagers. We walked a great deal without looking like we walked a lot. Highlight was a two-hour Vespa ride. The drivers will negotiate traffic and show you Rome in a new light with their local knowledge and attitude. The adventure is completed with gelato (food), and vino cheapo for parents who are tired after an evening out.

Austria’s Alpine Summer Wonderland
Saalbach Hinterglemm was Austria’s summer playground for waterparks, hiking and ebiking. The Joker card offers reduced or free access to a wide range of activities. You can rent a car in order to explore local resorts that offer lakeside beaches, alpine parks, glacier tours, and summer tobogganing runs. There are plenty of activities to keep teenagers entertained.

The epic journey of a train across Europe
Last summer, I took my two kids on a trip through Scandinavia and then returned via the Baltic states. We all took part in the planning of this epic 5,000 mile train trip. The 10-year old was more interested in cycling, swimming and play parks. The 14 year old took us to Riga’s KGB headquarters and Berlin. He also visited the Deyrolle taxidermy store in Paris. It was great to be able relax and enjoy the trip, knowing that my kids were doing something different and learning geography.

Antwerp is cosmopolitan, exotic and a city of culture.
Eurostar made it easy to get from London to Antwerp. Every morning coffee and buns from Pakt, every day cool galleries such as MoMu and Fomu, Kilo vintage shopping, Art Nouveau streets, amazing Korean, Vietnamese, and Nepalese and bicycles! The perfect October getaway.

Postcard taken from Belleville in Paris
A brief holiday for us this year with our 15-year-old son but it was plenty – five nights in a gorgeous apartment on the edge of Belleville, Paris, not far from Buttes-Chaumont. It’s a great age to take our son to Disneyland and the Fondation Louis Vuitton for the Hockney exhibition. From our French windows we could watch the city unfold and sample Lebanese and Laos food. Eats Thyme in the town centre is another standout.

Win a cable car and an Oompah in Bavaria
A two-centre holiday to Munich and Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria, Germany, is a must with teenagers as there is so much to see and do. In Munich they loved the atmosphere in the beer halls – eating pretzels and listening to the oompah band and watching the Rathaus-Glockenspiel in the square. Olympiapark should also be visited. In Garmisch-Partenkirchen there is a toboggan run, which is great fun, and nearby is the beautiful Zugspitze mountain and cable car, with boating on Eibsee lake. Bavaria offers a variety of activities and attractions for teenagers to enjoy a fun-filled holiday.
