BreakwaterThrough its affiliate,, has partnered up with BR Investments to acquire the Ramada by Wyndham Augusta Downtown Hotel & Conference Center in Augusta, GA, with plans to comprehensively renovate and rebrand into a premium, soft-branded hotel.

Ramada, which was originally built in 1974 by I.M. Pei as Executive House Hotel before being rebranded Ramada Hotel USA in 1999 is only one of two hotels designed in the United States by this renowned architect. Pei is perhaps best known for designing the Louvre pyramid in Paris.

Breakwater, under the direction of Matt Brendle (cofounder/managing director), will oversee the complete transformation of the hotel’s 175 rooms and return it to its former glory. The Gettys Group The interior and branding design will be led by Rabun Architects Will lead the architectural scope.

Breakwater has also brought on a Charleston-based restaurateur to shape the hotel’s food & beverage program. The company also leased space on Broad Street, both at street level and in the courtyard. This will allow guests to enjoy the hotel experience outside of the hotel.

“We have the chance to transform the east end of Broad Street into a dynamic destination,” said Brendle. “With vibrant public spaces, an outstanding F&B program and engaging events, the hotel will become the new beating heart of downtown Augusta—drawing locals and visitors alike.”
