MakeMyTrip launched a new AI assistant, Gen AI, to replace its current AI agent Myra. The tool is designed to provide travelers with conversational support at each stage of the travel planning process, such as destination discovery, shopping and in-trip stages.

Travelers can use Gen AI’s new trip planner via voice and text. MakeMyTrip launched the beta of this tool currently in English, Hindi and plans to expand it into multiple Indian languages. The company stated that this will allow users in India who were previously unable to make a booking due to their discomfort with English to now do so.

MakeMyTrip Group CEO Rajesh Magow revealed that in a call with investors last month, the company is relying on AI to make it stand out. Magow stated that the company has seen great promise in Gen AI and they have invested heavily behind it. They will continue to do so. “We view it more as leading the innovation via Gen AI than getting overtly paranoid about possible disruption,” Magow said.

Travel companies use Generative AI, agentic AI and other AI technologies to help travelers with the booking process.

Skift has recently spoken to five online agencies in India about how they use AI.

MakeMyTrip claims that the upgraded planning assistant does more than just give suggestions. “Multiple AI platforms worldwide stop at suggestions. Myra takes a new course by bridging between inspiration and booking. Users can move from a query to a confirmed booking with just one conversation.
