A cruise line has created its own luxurious location by building a new island for its passengers.
MSC Cruises is the third largest cruise line in the world. It already owns Ocean Cay Marine Preserve, located in The Bahamas. MSC Cruises’ 100-year lease on the artificial island dates back to the late 1960s. It was redeveloped in 2015 into a luxury destination. Now, MSC Cruises is developing a second island about a quarter of the size.
The new island, which is currently known informally as “Little Cay”, will be constructed on a natural sandy bank. The project, which is still in its early stages, is being developed in collaboration with The Bahamas.
Sidney Sterling is the director of MSC Cruises USA’s media relations. In a shared statement, Sterling said that this was an opportunity to create an exclusive, luxury experience for guests. MSC Cruises’ new Marine Conservation Center opened on Ocean Cay, April 10th, as a resource to biologists, students, scientists and visitors. Ocean Cay’s long shoreline has eight beaches.
