- South Dakota is a great state for seniors who are single and looking for a companion.
- Mount Rushmore State has a healthy senior population, low mental health rates, and an even gender distribution.
- The report found that seniors are equally as interested in dating apps as younger people.
The number of single seniors in America has reached a new record, and that’s without counting the 4.2 millions potential retirees who will turn 65 in 2025. If you are a senior single looking for love, you might want to move to another state.
In February, Seniorly – a resource centre for adults aged 50+ – opened its doors. retirement Age has released its findings on the best states to live for seniors who are single. The company looked at 12 different metrics across three categories, including health and well-being; family life; and financial health.
South Dakota was named the number one place for romance among seniors. It named South Dakota the No.
Seniorly reported that “South Dakota is unique for its low mental health problem rate (5.3%), healthy elderly population (82 percent are in good health) and low risk of romance frauds (17.2 per 100,000).” It also has a gender balance, with 111 women over 100 men.
A second northern destination also came in close behind: Minnesota. It received high marks for its long life expectancy (19,4 years by age 65) as well as strong health outcomes (81,7% in good health). It lost the top spot because of its expensive date nights. Each date is estimated to cost $156.
Wyoming is ranked third due to its high level of social engagement, while Colorado and New Hampshire are ranked fourth and fifth respectively.
It turns out that older Americans find love in the same manner as younger Americans.
“Dating apps aren’t just for the young and restless—older Americans are swiping right too. According to Pew Research Center’s report, 13 percent (or adults 65 years and older) are already using dating apps. The report also stated that Match.com, eHarmony.com and OKCupid.com are the most popular apps for seniors.
The study concluded, “The increasing number of senior singles is changing societal norms surrounding aging and romantic relationships. It proves that it’s not too late to have meaningful relationships.” “Whether it’s through an active social life, good health outcomes, or opportunities to hit the town, some states offer better conditions than others for seniors looking for love—but ultimately, success in the dating pool comes down to personal confidence, open-mindedness and the willingness to embrace new experiences regardless of age.”
