Islander Resort This property spans six islands and is located in Islamorada on 24 acres. Islamorada is located 17 miles south of Key Largo. It has a rich history that dates back to the early 1900s, when Henry Flagler, the founder of Standard Oil, used the land as his private fishing grounds. The original hotel, built in 1951, had a fun midcentury modern Space Age design. Islander Resort reopened in late 2024 with an updated design, new amenities, and new grounds.
The resort’s 350-square-foot one-bedroom bungalows have a design inspired by the beaches of Florida, including pastel shades, wicker furniture and polished wooden surfaces. Perhaps the best feature of the bungalows are their spacious patios where guests can take in the tranquil ocean views.
Booking one of Islander’s 14 oceanside rooms is a great option for large groups. These suites have a fully equipped kitchen, formal dining area, living room and a patio with waterfront views. In the course of renovations, both the freshwater pool oasis and the saltwater pool terrace were given a major facelift. Both now have hammocks, cabanas with shade, and hanging beds. There’s also a nine hole putting course on site, along with courts for pickleball and volleyball. Sunrise Pier offers plenty of fishing and snorkeling options, while sunrise yoga is offered every Friday morning.
