Dubai, UAE – Global Hotel Alliance GHA, the largest independent hotel brand alliance in the world, announced a rapid expansion of its Green Collection. The collection has grown by 150% since its launch in March of 2023. It now includes 472 hotels, resorts, and palaces, up from 189. This rapid growth underscores the importance of sustainability to the hospitality industry.
The Green Collection properties have all attained certifications from at least 20 globally recognised environmental organisations. EarthCheck is one of them, Green Growth 2050 is another, Green Key, Green Globe and Green Key among others. These certifications require that hotels meet the highest standards possible for sustainability and performance. Third-party audits must be conducted regularly to maintain the certification. Certification is proof of a hotel’s commitment to maintaining these standards over the long term.
The Green Collection’s constant growth is a powerful testimony to our shared commitment by all of our brands to responsible traveling. In two short years, our Green Collection has grown from a small part of our portfolio to more than 50% of it, proving sustainability is not just a priority for hospitality, but one of its defining elements. Green Collection was designed to assist conscious consumers in making more informed decisions, but it also helps our hotels along their sustainability journeys by working together and sharing best practices, success stories and guidance on meaningful initiatives. I want to sincerely congratulate and thank our hotel brands for their commitment to sustainability and positive impact within the communities they serve. Jelena Kezika, Senior Director Strategy for GHA
The collection offers a wide range of destinations and services, including city breaks, seaside getaways, business stays, and leisure getaways. It is available in 60 countries, and 260 locations, covering every region. The Green Collection comprises 81% of GHA’s portfolio in Europe. Middle East properties make up 58%, while Africa accounts for 46%. Spain has the most Green Collection Hotels (74), followed closely by Italy (57), Germany (45) and The Netherlands (35). This geographic spread demonstrates a commitment to sustainability in key European markets.
In 2024, three prestige brands, The Leela Palaces Hotels and Resorts and Lore Group, joined the Green Collection, adding their first hotels. Twenty-five of 45 GHA brand properties are now part of the Green Collection.
As evidenced by the notable rise in key performance metrics, sustainability is becoming a major factor in guests’ preferences. In 2024, guests at Green Collection hotels spent 26% more per night than those staying in other hotels of the alliance. The total number of nights spent at Green Collection properties increased 16% between 2023 and 2024. This further shows the increasing appeal of eco friendly accommodations. Green Collection hotels continue to be the cornerstones of GHA’s success. In 2024, they contributed 71% of total revenue and 68% of total nights across the GHA hotel portfolio.
Green Collection continues to be at the forefront in sustainable hospitality. It shows that luxury can coexist with environmental responsibility.
Kezika concluded:
GHA began its partnership with EarthCheck in September 2023. EarthCheck is the world’s leading benchmarking and certification organization for sustainable travel. GHA is committed to becoming EarthCheck Certified for its Dubai headquarters. This collaboration is a part of that commitment. GHA created a Green Team of departmental champions to help achieve this goal. The Green Team’s role is drive the certification and embed sustainability measures across the company.
GHA is pleased to announce that this week its Dubai office was EarthCheck certified. This marks a major milestone on its journey towards greater social and environmental responsibility. This milestone coincides with the second anniversary for the Green Collection initiative and Donate D$.
