    Alaska Airlines just dropped loyalty tiers

    • Alaska Airlines updated its frequent-flier rewards program recently.
    • The new tiers begin at 10,000 miles, and they offer benefits or status in incrementals.
    • Travelers may earn rewards such as discounted lounge access or future flight credits.

    The benefits of frequent-flier status are now easier to enjoy.

    Alaska Airlines The airline recently announced that the minimum requirement of 10,000 miles would be dropped for the frequent flier benefits. Flying with the airline will now give you more benefits and perks.

    Alaska had to have a minimum of 20000 miles in order to reach its lowest status called MVP. Next, the tiers were 40,000, 75,000 and then 100,000.

    Travelers can select a perk starting at 10,000 miles. This includes earning 750 bonus mile or experiencing the MVP status on a trip. The MVP status includes priority check-ins, free checked luggage, seat upgrades and more.

    When a traveler reaches the 20,000-mile threshold, they earn MVP status with all the listed perks, as well as Ruby status in the Oneworld airline alliance. Alaska, American Airlines and British Airways are all part of the Oneworld alliance, as well as Cathay Pacific, Qantas Airways, Qatar Airways, Qantas and Qatar Airways.

    Travelers can unlock new statuses and perks with each increment of 10,000 point. The 30,000 level, for instance, comes with four Wi-Fi accesses or 2,500 bonus mileage.

    Brett Catlin said, “We are on a multiyear journey to make industry’s most generous program even more rewarding.”

    The loyalty program updates come at a time where other airlines have downgraded benefits for frequent fliers and customers, providing an opportunity for Alaska to potentially capture new business. Southwest Airlines was in the news in March of 2025. for ending its long-standing free bag policy on most tickets. United Airlines will also be offering a discount on most tickets in March. increased fees and removed guest access Many members of the United Club airline lounge.

    Alaska Airlines is also offering a status match challengeAlaska will match the status level of a passenger who has achieved a higher status with a competing airline. Members of Southwest Airlines’ A-List Preferred program can receive a matching to MVP Gold and United’s Platinum program can receive a matching to MVP Gold 75K.

    The report, which examines the best frequent-flyer programs in the world, WalletHub recently named the Alaska Mileage Plan from Alaska Airlines the No. 1 in the country.
