The Public Theater executive director Patrick Willingham highlights the most visible changes as a “gorgeous façade made from reclaimed wooden water towers across the city”, while also highlighting improvements in accessibility and long overdue upgrades to backstage. The changes “preserve the magic of the performance while future-proofing space.” The audience will also see more ramps, better wayfinding signs, and brighter productions thanks to the improved lighting towers. The seating has been improved to provide better visibility and comfort.

New Museum Reopening Fall of 2025
Contemporary art institution New Museum In 1977, the company was established in a small office in Hudson Street. The new building’s three additional terraces will look out onto Bowery, and the Sky Room on the top floor will be doubled in size. The new spaces upstairs will include a 74 seat forum for public programming, space for artist residencies, and a home built for the cultural incubator NEW INC.
This $125 million expansion is primarily designed to improve visitor flow. Three elevators, an Atrium staircase and an Entrance Plaza that can be used as a public art venue in the open air will all contribute to this. The ground-floor expansion will provide a larger restaurant and bookstore. The new building is dedicated to the late philanthropist Toby Devan Lewis.
When the museum reopens, in the fall of this year, the entire exhibit will be on display. It will highlight the culture and history of the neighborhood as well the birthplace hip-hop. The National Urban League’s Urban Civil Rights Museum Next year, the new Harlem HQ of the NBA will feature a program exploring the American Civil Rights Movement.
