    Chicago Named as the Safest U.S. Travel Destination for LGBTQ+ Travelers

    This report offers important safety tips for LGBTQ+ travelers.

    Chicago The city was rated as the safest for LGBTQ+ travellers in the United States. The findings will be revealed in the 2025 Misterb&b’s Queer Safety IndexThis ranking is based upon potential legislative risk, local right protections, as well as hate crime reports filed at the FBI, to determine the most safe cities.

    Chicago is home of several LGBTQ+ neighbourhoods including Northalsted. Andersonville and Uptown. Choose Chicago from the Chicago Tourism Board revealed that Chicago was home to the United States’ first gay neighborhood.

    Seattle, San Francisco Portland and San Diego round out the top five. Honolulu ranked high for LGBTQ+ safety along with Denver, Albuquerque Las Vegas, Palm Springs, and Honolulu.     This index was created by a team of researchers. [M]isterb&b’s data scientists looked at what cities and places are the most booked, and safest for LGBTQ people, and predict these will be the 30 safest cities for U.S. LGBTQ+ folks this year,” a Misterb&b spokesperson told Travel + Leisure.

    According to a May 2024 ranking of international destinations Canada, Malta New Zealand Portugal Spain are all ranked as the safest countries for LGBTQ+ tourists. The report also ranked U.S. States for LGTBQ+ Safety, with New York taking the top spot, followed by California and Colorado.

    Safety guides offer travelers a wealth of information and insights based on publicly available data, allowing them to make informed choices about safe travel destinations.

    Iceland, for example, was recently ranked the safest destination for international travel Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection. Australia, Canada, Ireland and Switzerland were the top five countries in this report that analyzed crime levels, crowding and peace/safety indicators.
