Have you ever dreamed of becoming the owner of a business? private island? What about a quiet, private snooze in the privacy of your own home with only the sound of the crashing waves and the wind?
Thanks to a new initiative from Visit Sweden, this dream is about to become a reality for five lucky winners…
When it comes to the likes Lord of the Flies Although we may not have been taught this in school, private islands can be a luxury that only those who are able to afford them will enjoy. The fast-paced nature of daily life has led to digital detoxes and no shortage of quirky wellness retreats over the years—but whatever happened to pure, peaceful tranquillity?
With 267,570 islands—more than any other country in the world—dotted through the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Bothnia, Sweden There are many beautiful places to visit in the world.
Now, Visit Sweden is giving five lucky winners a certificate and the personal right to use a designated Swedish island for one year under a right-of-use agreement—this means the certificate does not confer any ownership rights to the island.
Prizes include not only a free year on a Swedish island, but also a travel coupon that allows the winner to bring a companion to Sweden for round-trip flights. Travel vouchers are valid between June 2026 and May 2027.
The five islands up for grabs are Tjuvholmen, Medbådan, Skötbådan, Storberget, and Marsten—more information on each is available here.
What’s in the fine print? Well, for starters, the competition isn’t open to billionaires (we’re out of the running, then), and entrants must be over 18 years of age—check the full terms and conditions here.
To avoid being a total snob, I’ll also mention that the islands up for grabs are nothing more than rocky outcrops. In reality, the only reason you would want to win is to get free flights to a more expensive corner of Europe. There’s so much to see and do in Europe, not just your new place. You can still take the trip and present your certificate to your new shores.
Are you interested? If you are, then record a video of one minute in 9:16 portrait and explain to the board why it is that you deserve a Swedish island. The more fantastical, the better—sob stories welcome, but not necessary.
Upload your video via the online form by April 17, 2026, 11:59 p.m. CEST, and share your video on social media to increase your chances of winning—tagging @visitsweden YourSwedishIsland.
