The Michelin Guide, the first regional edition of North America to be published in the Southeastern United States, has been launched this week.
The company announced the new guide at an awards ceremony held in Greenville, South Carolina, its North American headquarters. The new edition builds on the Atlanta Guide of the company, which features eight one-starred eateries.
Gwendal Poullennec said, “The cuisine of America’s South is a rich mixture of cultural influences. It has been brought to life by chefs who have created some of the most iconic dishes of the region.” Travel + Leisure. “Our anonymous Inspectors were deeply impressed by the region’s culinary prowess, and this inaugural selection reflects their findings — from Southern staples like barbecue, Creole and seafood, to international flavors. “We welcome these restaurants into the MICHELIN Guide and toast to all of the chefs and restaurant teams that were honored tonight.”
E.J. Emeril’s, a two-starred restaurant in New Orleans that is managed by E.J. Lagasse is the son of Emeril Lagasse. He was the youngest chef ever to lead a two-star kitchen. The restaurant offers a modern take on Creole food, including oyster stew served with Herbsaint Cream and smoked salmon with 180-day-aged caviar.
South Carolina has the most Michelin-starred restaurants, with four. Three of them are located in Charleston The one in Greenville. These restaurants each received one star.
Duane PARRISH, director of South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, stated that “Four MICHELIN Stars is not just a landmark, it’s an achievement for our State.” “This recognition places South Carolina firmly on the map of the world’s food and celebrates the people, stories and flavors that make South Carolina cuisine so special.”
Two of the new green star spots, which are awarded based upon a restaurant’s vision and inspiration, were in hotels. Luminosa, located in the Flat Iron Hotel Asheville is located in North Carolina. The signature restaurant of the city, January, is located in Asheville. Southall Farm & Inn Franklin, Tennessee.
Michelin also named 50 restaurants to its Bib Gourmand List, which “recognizes restaurants that provide good food at a reasonable price.” All in all, there are 44 different types cuisines represented by the selection of starred and Bib Gourmand restaurants.
