He said that spending time in Traverse and Petoskey in the fall is a special experience. The summer crowds are gone, the air has become crisper, and the changing leaves of orange, red and yellow look spectacular against the blue skies.
He suggests taking a boat trip on Lake Michigan and then enjoying a cup of coffee or a glass of wine while overlooking the water. This is the best way to enjoy fall. Take a scenic drive around the lake if you have time.
Sherri Campbell Fenton is the managing owner and director of Black Star FarmsThe northern half of the State is also recommended for its stunning color. Fenton, in an interview with T+L, said that “rolling hills, rural farmland, orchards and vineyards and winding river create a relaxing and authentic escape from the city and daily responsibilities.”
She recommends that you stay at a winery to be able to sleep in the middle of the area. She said that these smaller, charming inns offer a slower pace and a front row seat for grape harvest, the chance to taste some of Michigan’s growing wine scene, as well as an opportunity to meet welcoming locals.
Duckworth said that if budget permits, you can buy the Grand Hotel Mackinac Island offers the ultimate fall luxury. Duckworth stated that staying there was like taking a trip back in time, with its old-world hospitality, where guests dressed up for dinner and went dancing. They also sat on rocking chair overlooking the water. The hotel was opened in the late 1800s, and it has been a popular destination ever since.
