No place is like it New England in the fall. New England is known for its many deciduous trees. The towns of New England also celebrate the fall with maple syrup, cider donuts and apple orchards that allow you to pick your own apples. Everything is better with a little help.
There is an alternative to the way most people see the autumn colors. There is a way to get away from the highways, and immerse yourself in the beautiful landscape. Enter the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad. its special “Fall Foliage Trains,” The festival runs from mid-September until mid-October. New Hampshire.
The foliage-focused four-hour train journey leaves from Meredith in New Hampshire and continues north up and over Ashland Summit. The train crosses the Ashland High Trestle which offers views of the forest and water below. It then passes through a Christmas Tree Farm and a Red Deer Farm.
The train then heads to Plymouth in New Hampshire and stops at an inn. The Common Man Inn & SpaFor lunch. The dining room of this establishment offers a hot lunch buffet to welcome train travelers.
Granite State Scenic Railway
After a relaxing, hot meal, travelers can browse the gift shop of the inn to find New Hampshire-made items before getting back on the train.
On the way to Meredith (where the journey ends), the train stops in Ashland New Hampshire. It is here that the restored locomotive can be found. Boston, Concord & Montreal Railroad Station. Ashland Historical Society members dressed in 1860s clothing will give a tour of this historic station.
After Ashland the train returns to Meredith Station, passing by Lake Waukewan and Ashland Summit.
Special Fall Foliage Trip on the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad Leaves Meredith Station around 11 a.m., and returns just after 3.30 p.m. The four-hour trip is only offered on Thursdays. Fridays. Saturdays. and Sundays. From Sept. 20 until Oct. 20, 2020. The fall foliage special tickets are $99.99 per person, which includes a hot buffet lunch, a guided tour of Ashland and a souvenir booklet. The Turkey Dinner train departs from Ashland at 4:30 on Fridays & Saturdays. It includes a hot platter of roasted Turkey, sides, and a dessert apple crisp.
