I’ve been reluctant to link a holiday to any kind of rite-of-passage. I often refer to the holidays that were considered my honeymoon As a way to avoid the stress of these important milestones, some people refer to their honeymoon as “the holiday I took after my wedding.” When it came time to plan a babymoonI was (not surprisingly) unsure of the need for linking You can also find out more about the other Holiday to what will be undoubtedly the most important moment in my entire life. As I thought more about what a “babymoon” meant, I realized that I really wanted some time with my partner alone before our baby arrived.
I had my heart set on going abroad. My vision was to spend leisurely days in the Dolomites Or just relaxing in the sun? South of France. When I became pregnant, my feelings were quite different from what I had imagined. I found myself wanting to stay close to home—to my friends, my family, and those home comforts. A UK staycation seemed to be in order. I knew that I wanted to be near the ocean and have easy access to the countryside, as well as the chocolate-box villages. I wanted to be close to restaurants that I could enjoy, but also have the option of cooking at home. My partner and I both find food a great way to connect and to create joy. What offers these essentials, plus more? Cornwall—which, funnily enough, is also where we spent the “holiday we took after our wedding.”
We had spent weeks trying to decide where we would stay in Cornwall, before settling on Three Mile Beach. The first thing I thought when I saw the layout was “This would be my perfect babymoon.” Three Mile Beach is a colorful village with luxury beach houses. Three Mile Beach offers a full kitchen and hotel amenities such as a restaurant, a coffee shop, pizza night, access to surfboards as well as a spa.
We stayed in Echo Beach—a four-bedroom beach house with a quirky boho interior that really transported you into the beach holiday mindset. Each room was unique: the master bedroom featured a beautiful woven carpet, an ethereal chandelier made of fabric and sand colored furniture that created a relaxing atmosphere. The copper bathtub was the best part of the room. It was perfect for my aching joints due to my changing pregnancy body. The first night, we walked down to Gwithian Beach—a mere five minutes from our beach house to watch the sunset before heading back up for a pizza night. The team assembled an Ooni oven with all of the necessary gadgets, including a complete set of ingredients. After a brief tutorial, we were left to make our own pizzas. We loved creating our own topping combinations and were impressed with the delicious dough. St Ives Bakery. We spent an evening on one of the tables outside the house, talking about our dreams, hopes and fears for the coming years, and how to stay connected with each other after the birth of our child.
I was then treated to an InLight Glow Between Tides 60-minute facial using all-natural InLight ingredients. I must admit that I fell asleep while receiving the head massage. I felt more relaxed and comfortable with my body afterward than I had during this entire pregnancy. My partner became so envious that I had a zen-like attitude, that he booked a massage himself for that afternoon. We started our morning walk at the Godrevy Lighthouse. The sun was shining and it was a perfect day for walking through the dunes. We even saw a seal or two. The rest of the day was spent in the hammock on the patio. Chomp for dinner. This indoor/outdoor restaurant serves family-style dishes that showcase Cornwall’s abundance. The menu was simple but tasty. We had everything from spiced chicken wings to grilled hispi with wild garlic pesto. After dinner we walked around the grounds, feeling satisfied and discussing possible names for our baby.
