The Core Wellness Standards for Hotel have been developed by WITT in collaboration with the Wellness Tourism Association. This global framework is designed to integrate wellness practices into the hotel operation. The standards developed by WITT Standards Advisory Committee provide measurable metrics for hotels to improve their wellness offering.

The Core Wellness Standards are built on more than 100 certification criteria by WITT and organized into five main pillars – Healthy Eating (Healthy Food), Holistic Healing (Holistic Healing), Nature, Movement and Local Impact. These standards provide specific requirements to hotels that align their operations with wellness.

Hotels are encouraged, under the Healthy Eating Pillar, to provide nutritious meals, suggest local dining options that align with wellness, and offer clean, filtered drinking water. The Holistic healing pillar is focused on maintaining a clean environment, encouraging restful sleep environments and ensuring warm customer service.

The Nature Pillar involves integrating biophilic interior design elements and facilitating the access to green spaces. The Movement pillar demands that hotels provide physical activity programs and space. Local Impact emphasizes using local products, celebrating local cultures, and environmental protection.

The initiative addresses “wellness washing” in the industry, by providing hotels with a clear set standards to attract wellness-focused customers. The standards will give travelers the confidence of independently verified wellness criteria.

Hotels around the world can now access Core Wellness Standards, and applications for certification. More information is available at wittcertified.com.
