    This U.S. Airport Just Became the Worst Airport in the World For Lost Luggage

    There are few travel inconveniences more frustrating than airport baggage mishandling. Each year, 26 million bags are lost or damaged worldwide. arriving without your luggage. Now, ArkaA California-based custom shipping packaging provider has analysed data to determine which airports have the highest rate of baggage mishaps.

    Miami International Airport, MIA, was named the “worst hub in handling luggage”.

    MIA serves as a gateway for the Caribbean and Latin America. It is also Miami’s port-of-call for cruises. Around 1,000 flights pass through MIA each day. Akra’s study shows that 52 million passengers use the airport annually, with 306 bags lost for every million flights. There are 5.5 bags lost per 1,000 passengers.

    The analysis examined two main variables, namely passenger volume and searches online for “lost or found services.” In order to ensure that airports are compared fairly, the data on searches was adjusted so they reflect searches per million of passengers. The data helped to identify airports that had unusually high levels in interest for lost luggage. To provide a broader perspective, we also included regional baggage mishandling (measured by 1,000 passengers).

    “Losing baggage can turn an entire trip upside-down, and certain airports are clearly more difficult to handle than others.” Travelers should be aware of these problems so that they can plan and take additional precautions.
