The opening of the NPS follows a 26 million dollar renovation that began in early 2022.
The California park campground now has brand new and upgraded restrooms. There are also new picnic tables, firepits and food lockers that keep animals away. The infrastructure has also been upgraded, with 29 new hiking-in camping areas and a replacement of the water system.
It is home to an amphitheater called the Dana Campfire Circle, which hosts evening programs led by rangers. The amphitheater has also been renovated and now includes new seating for companions and accessible routes.
In a press release, Yosemite National Park’s acting superintendent, Ray McPadden, said that Tuolumne Meadows was a popular destination for nature lovers, families, backpackers and equestrians from all over the world. He added that the NPS had “revitalized this beloved campground” in a manner which honors the past, protects the environment and prepares it to welcome future generations.
