Quality slippers make a huge difference to your comfort. If you are like me and wear slippers for house shoes, then you will spend more time in them than any other shoe. To allow extended wear, slippers need to provide at least support and warmth. I like a slipper which is easy to slip on, but also stays in place without too much effort when walking. For reliable warmth without having to worry about sweaty, clammy feet all year round, I prefer wool over synthetic materials.
Many slippers today have a combination of traditional features, such as soft, cozy interiors, with the durability and traction of an outdoor shoe. For the best results, we tried 11 pairs of slippers for men while doing daily chores at home, relaxing, or venturing outdoors (if designed for outdoor use). Over several months, we evaluated each pair for fit, comfort and design. We also considered quality and value. We chose a wool slipper as our favorite overall, but other styles, designs, and features stood out.

Glerups is a Danish shoe that truly represents the Danish concept. HyggeThe word is a synonym for a quiet, contented feeling that comes from enjoying the little things in life. These shoes are constructed of 100 percent Wool (except for the sole), and do not include a faux fur or plush shearling lining. The wool was soft, and I initially questioned its comfort. However, they were very comfortable to wear barefoot straight out of the package. With each wearing, they continue to get softer and more contoured for my feet. Although there is no integrated arch support, its ergonomic design, elevated fitting, and broken-in feel help support your feet.
These are the only socks I wear. They’re breathable and comfortable to wear all year. The material helps to keep odors away. The wool mixture is sourced in Denmark and New Zealand from farms that meet strict standards of quality and animal care. The minimalist style and numerous color options make them a versatile slipper for wearing with pajamas or dressed up—they’re my go-to house shoes when hosting dinner parties. Although the leather soles make them best for indoor use this Glerup model is also available with rubber outsoles at a higher cost.

The Ugg Men’s Scuffs felt comfortable to wear straight out of the package. We love the way the wool feels on our feet, and the warmth they provide without making us overheat. The backless design makes them a breeze to slip on, yet they remain securely in place while walking—so much so that we had to make a deliberate effort to take them off our feet. The lining and foam footbed provide enough support to walk around the house. The suede outsole was impressive in its grip on carpet and laminate flooring. Ugg’s suede upper comes in a variety of colors and sizes.

Birkenstock Boston Clogs are now even cozier with the addition of the Birkenstock Boston Clog Shearlings. The same high quality and functionality remain. These slippers are among the most comfortable we’ve worn. However, the shearling lining can make them tighter at first until the suede upper has been broken in. We are confident that the quality construction will ensure comfort for years. They were easy to slip on and stay put. The contoured footbed combined with the adjustable strap ensured that our feet stayed in place while we walked. The footbeds provide arch support, which is why we wear these all day. Although the EVA sole is suitable for varied surfaces, their suede upper restricts them to outdoor use when it rains or snows.

The rubber outsole worked well on various outdoor surfaces such as loose rocks, dirt or grass. These are perfect for camping and skiing. We appreciate the collapsible heels for indoor use and mild temperatures.

The OluKai moloas is a stylish and functional leather slipper which can be worn at home, or even on the road. The Merino wool footbeds provide excellent arch support, cushioning and comfort. We found the lining to be incredibly soft. From the stitching, to the Nubuck leather in various colors, the construction quality is apparent. The leather has a matte finish, which gives it a refined but casual feel. The Moloas are equipped with OluKai’s trademark drop-in-heel, allowing them to be worn as either a slipper or loafer depending on the occasion. The rubber soles are non-marking and easy to wear on indoor surfaces, while still providing durability for outdoor use.

L.L.Bean Wicked Good Moccasins have a classic, cozy design. The soft shearling felt great on our skin, and the moisture-wicking properties of the lining ensured that we stayed dry and comfortable all day. These shoes were comfortable and easy to wear and remove without the use of our hands. Rawhide laces may be more decorative than functional, but they can still help you adjust the shoe’s fit. The thick rubber outsoles were excellent for traction whether they were on vinyl or hardwood. We were impressed by the quality of the construction, which showed no wear at all after using them in the house and outside or on vacation. The suede uppers make us hesitate to wear the slippers outside on grass, or anywhere they may get wet.

The Lucrin Leather Slippers provide a comfortable and stylish alternative to your typical house shoes. They were comfortable to wear straight out of the package. The leather upper was durable, but not stiff. It provided enough flexibility to allow you to wear them comfortably. In warmer weather, we were very impressed by the leather slippers’ breathability and how the suede soles gripped various indoor surfaces. We were also impressed by the thin, lightweight materials and their ability to be packed. We like that the Lucrins allow for a lot of customization. You can choose from pebbled or smoothed leather, and they come in up to 23 colours. However, there are only three sizes available (mediums, larges and extra-larges) and the conversion is required from EU sizes to U.S. measurements (although a size chart is provided on the website).

The VeraCosy Men’s Corduroy Scuff Slippers are equipped with a cushy fleece liner and durable rubber outsoles. They offer comfort and functionality for a great price. Corduroy is a durable and soft material that was used to make the upper. While wearing them for long periods of time in 75 degree weather, we were impressed with the breathability, the heel support and the cushioning in their footbed. Rubber outsoles were grippy enough to support tile floors and hardwood flooring. The shoes are easy to slip on, but at times we had to scrunch the toes to stop them from sliding.

Vionic Men’s Gustavo Slippers have been designed ergonomically for comfort. The EVA-based midsoles reduce impact and provide arch support, which makes these slippers a good choice for treating foot pain or plantar fasciitis. The interior and footbed are lined with faux shearling that we found to be breathable, preventing overheating. We like that the enclosed heels and snug fit keeps our feet in place, so we get the best out of the arch support. The snug fit made it easy to slip them on and take them off. Although the suede and style of the upper lend themselves to indoor wear, the rubber sole has enough tread and volume to be worn outdoors in certain conditions.

The Other Men’s Slippers That We Liked
Two other pairs of men’s slippers were also worth considering for their plush and cozy materials. These slippers were not included on our list, however, due to concerns regarding support and breathability.
Bombas Men’s Sunday Slipper: The fleece-like lining is soft and warm, and we love their slip-resistant bottom. The bulkier design, however, makes them harder to pack, and they could use more heel support.
Dearfoams Men’s Fireside by Dearfoams Grafton Genuine Shearling Clog Slipper: The suede upper is prone to getting water spots and our feet easily overheated.
Our Testing Process

Unboxing the slippers gave us a good idea of the quality and materials. We were particularly attentive to the stitching, fabrics, and extra features, such as straps and laces. We then wore each pair at least three times over the course of a two-week initial testing period. We tested them in different settings, from relaxing on the couch to doing housework and going outside.
For a fit assessment, we looked at how well the shoes stayed on our foot and the amount of effort needed to put them on or take them off. In order to rate their comfort, we evaluated softness and cushioning as well as arch and heel supports and the break-in period. We tested the key design features, including traction and breathability. We inspected each slipper at the end of the initial test period to note any signs of wear. We will test each pair of slippers for six months, to update their performance and durability.

Plusher materials or warmth might be the first thing you think of if your toes are always cold. For those with sweaty feet, lighter materials and a design without a back will be more appealing.
If I am at home all day, I wear slippers. I also look for a level of arch support and an ergonomic fit to prevent my feet from sliding. For indoor slippers, I value a foam or cushioned footbed to protect my feet from hard surfaces. I like a more durable outsole on outdoor slippers for better shock absorption.
