MoveBuddha, a relocation company, has released their latest newsletter. 2025 Moving Trends ReportThis year, analyzed 55,000 searches made on the website to determine where people intend to move.
Conway, South Carolina will be the top domestic relocation destination during the first half of 2025. There are four times as many people looking to move there than want to leave. Conway, which has 28,000 residents full-time, offers the charm of a vibrant, small community without the high cost of housing and the congestion found in larger cities.
South Carolina is the most popular state to move to so far, accounting for the highest volume of inbound searches—or over 22 percent. The Southeast is well represented in the top 10, with North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia seeing spikes in demand.
The report noted that “there’s been a broadening of migration interest with previously overlooked and lesser-known destinations gaining in popularity as popular locations reach their saturation limits and cost limitations.” This year smaller places are gaining in popularity, as there is a lot of demand for them and very few people want to leave. The result is that only a small number of locations are popular, while cities with a strong migration interest are falling behind.
New Jersey, California and New York, on the other hand, have received more inquiries about outbound moves. This means that these states are losing residents, rather than gaining them. MoveBuddha said that these states face affordability problems in an America plagued by persistent inflation, and pay increases that haven’t kept pace with the cost of living.
West Des Moines and Palmdale in California, along with El Cajon in Iowa, were the top “exit towns” as they are called by the company.
