    Avelo Airlines Ends All Flights from Los Angeles Area

    Avelo Airlines will cease operations at Hollywood Burbank Airport BUR in Los Angeles. Burbank is a popular airport for domestic and regional flights.

    A popular low-cost carrier is ending its era.

    Avelo Airlines The carrier confirmed recently that it will end its operations in Los Angeles and close down its base at Hollywood Burbank Airport. Travel + Leisure. The airline’s operations will slow starting on Aug. 12, when it will only have one aircraft operating in Burbank. Service will be completely discontinued in Burbank by Dec. 2.

    Avelo Airlines’ CEO Andrew Levy told T+L that he believed the continued service of BUR would not generate adequate financial returns, given the highly competitive environment. 

    Avelo operated regular flights between Burbank and Sonoma and Eureka in California, Pasco, Washington, Oregon (Bend and Eugene), Portland and Medford, as well as seasonal flights to Kalispell Montana. according to the carrier’s route map. Avelo first launched in 2021 With its inaugural flight scheduled from Burbank.

    According to the airline, it plans to move its aircraft from Burbank to other markets of priority. This will include strengthening its presence on the East Coast. Avelo has announced that passengers with future flights from Burbank booked on Avelo will have to cancel their reservation via the airline website to receive a reimbursement. 

    Just over 20 miles to the north of the larger Los Angeles International Airport Burbank, which is less crowded and has fewer flights than Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), is often considered a better option for travel. Burbank airport served more than 6.55million passengers in 2024. according to airport dataThis is a record-high and represents an increase of 8.5 percent from 2023. For comparison, last year more than 76 millions passengers arrived at LAX and departed. according to Los Angeles World Airports.)

    Southwest Airlines operates flights to Dallas and Denver from Burbank, as well as Phoenix, Las Vegas, and Phoenix. Other major airlines also fly from the airport. These include United Airlines, which offers direct flights to Denver and San Francisco. Delta Air Lines also operates routes to Atlanta and Salt Lake City.

    Overall, Avelo currently operates a fleet of 21 Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft and flies to more than 50 destinations, including to  Jamaica, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic. Beyond Burbank, the airline has bases in six other airports: Connecticut’s Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN), Delaware’s Wilmington Airport (ILG), Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU), Florida’s Lakeland International Airport (LAL), Charlotte’s Concord-Padgett Regional Airport (USA), and North Carolina’s Wilmington International Airport (ILM).
