Midnight Auteur—a hospitality company formed by the founders of cocktail bar Death & Co and the Ramble Hotel in Denver—has unveiled Municipal Grand, a luxury boutique hotel in Savannah, Georgia.
Municipal Grand, located in the 1960s Broughton Municipal building, features 44 rooms, a restaurant and bar at the lobby (Municipal Bar), a rooftop pool, lounge and bar (Sun Club) and a subterranean pub (the Hot Eye).
The midcentury modern design celebration
Imagined by AAmp Studio—in collaboration with Lynch Associates Architects Local preservation experts Ward Architecture + Preservation—Municipal Grand takes inspiration from the city’s lush gardens and the building’s midcentury design.
The design pays homage to Savannah’s often overlooked post-WWII Modernist movement. It retains original materials such as gray granite walls and frames, blue mosaic tiles, and structural columns. However, it also incorporates softened curves and layered textures.
The Guestrooms of the Municipal Grand
The guest rooms reflect Savannah’s welcoming nature. The rich, midcentury-style materials and lines are infused with warmth and comfort of a home that has been lived in.
The rooms begin with a lush green vestibule, which leads into the main living space. Here, cozy banquettes are paired with custom-made wood and velvet headboards to add texture. The arched minibar is topped with marble, and filled with a carefully curated collection of drinks. It reflects the hotel’s cocktail-oriented ethos. The bathroom features curved shower entries with handmade Moroccan tiles and red-marble vanities.
Some rooms have private terraces with views of Broughton street.
