US: Luxury brand Equinox Hotels is a partner of sensory innovation studio White Mirror sleep scientist Matthew Walker introduces sleep rituals for its New York property.

The Sleep Lab, at Equinox Hotels New York, is a sleep-optimisation experience that uses science to optimize rest and recovery.

The rituals are designed to be in sync with the circadian rhythm of your body. The technology is available in four Premier King rooms that have river views.

    Examples of experiences include:

    • Guided breathing enhanced with warm-spectrum orange and red lights, which have been shown to cause minimal disruption in melatonin.
    • Audio-visual material that down-regulates nervous system by using slow tempos, rhythmic entrainment.
    • A wakescape – an audio-driven ritual designed to replace harsh alarms with gradual sensory stimulation, awakening guests softly and restoring energy naturally.

A travel sleep kit and an adaptive mattress with temperature control can be added. Also included are a contrast therapy with steam or ice functions and a nightly sleep assessment.

Chris Norton is the CEO of Equinox Hotels, said: “The Sleep Lab is not just an evolution of our commitment to sleep – it is the future of high-performance regeneration. Our first-of its-kind sleep experience combines luxury and science to allow our guests to reach peak performance.

Katie Tardif brand director Equinox Hotels, added: “It’s been a pleasure to work with White Mirror on the development of the Sleep Lab — their expertise in sensory health and immersive audio and visual content has helped bring our vision to life. The Sleep Lab is the next step in high-performance healthcare. We’ve created an experience and experiment that combines cutting-edge technology with unmatched luxury. This is a revolutionary experiment and experience which elevates recovery for optimal performance.

Tom Middleton co-founder White Mirror Studio, stated: “Our mission is to provide rituals that promote deeper, more restorative sleeping and smooth transitions between sleep and wakefulness. This will address the global sleep issue that affects one third of adults.”

Walker stated: “Our goal is to bring sleep science to the hospitality industry, providing an experience that’s not only luxurious, but scientifically validated. The Sleep Lab is a unique opportunity for guests to improve their health and well-being.

    Highlights:

    • Equinox Hotels has introduced Sleep Lab rooms at its New York property.

    • The initiative was created in collaboration with White Mirror and sleep expert Matthew Walker, offering rituals aligned with circadian rhythms and nervous system regulation.

    • Four Premier King rooms have been upgraded with immersive lighting, audiovisual tools, and a gentle “wakescape” alarm alternative to support restful sleep and natural wakefulness.

    • Rooms also included smart amenities such as adaptive mattresses with personalised temperature control, a steam/ice contrast shower, travel sleep kits, and a digital morning sleep assessment.
