Few things are worse than trying to sprint from one airport to the other in order to make a quick connection to your next plane. Understanding the layout of your next airport can help you avoid this stressful moment.

Kuru, a company that makes footwear, published its findings in March. They looked into which U.S. international airports you will have to walk the most across during your next trip.

To keep up with the demand, major hubs will continue to build new concourses, extend terminals and expand their layouts. And while that means more flights and better amenities, it also means more walking—or wheeling—before you even take off,” the team explained.

Then, after examining all the information available, it named Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport In Texas, the longest walk is (DFW).

The team stated that “DFW has once again claimed the longest airport walk of the U.S. with a 1.50-mile journey from the entrance to farthest gates.” It’s not surprising that DFW is the longest airport walk in the U.S., with a 1.50-mile trek from the entrance to its farthest gate.

    Methodology
The team created a list of the 10 biggest and 10 smallest U.S. airports by land area. (This included only airports within 60 miles from a major metropolis). The team then used Google Maps in order to determine the distance between the main entrance of the airport and the furthest gate. It then narrowed the list down to the five longest and top five shortest airport walk.

Denver International Airport in Colorado (DEN), with a 1.14 mile walking distance, comes in at No. 2. Washington Dulles International Airport, in Virginia, is ranked 2nd with a walking distance of.97miles, followed by Pittsburgh International Airport, in Pennsylvania (0.8 miles), and Orlando International Airport, in Florida (.70 miles).

The U.S. does not have every airport that is difficult to navigate. According to the team, the Trenton-Mercer Airport (TTN) in New Jersey is a breeze, with a walking distance of just 0.03 miles.

Paine Field in Washington was also on the list. Tweed New Haven Airport in Connecticut (HVN), at only 0.04 miles, is ranked second. Lihue Airport in Hawaii (LIH), at 0.06 mile, is ranked third. Harrisburg International Airport in Pennsylvania is 0.12 miles away.

The team provided a few helpful tips for navigating your next airport. One of the most important was to plan ahead. Need a wheelchair or an escort to and from terminals? Or other accessibility services?” Don’t wait until the last minute—many airports offer assistance, but availability can be limited. You can call ahead to ensure that you or your loved ones get the assistance needed for a stress free layover or connecting flight.
