The first luxury sleeper in England and Wales, the Britannic Explorer A Belmond Train will be making history on its maiden journey 4th July 2025. The pioneering train is set to become a new iconic symbol of modern British identity by combining history, style and personality in an unexpected and unconventional way.
CRAFTING THE NEW BRITISH ICON
Albion Nord in London, along with Luke Edward Hall and Mel Campion, has meticulously designed the interior of the train. Eight carriages are infused with a sophisticated ambiance, seamlessly blending British wit and charm in every detail. Bold fabrics, hand-selected antiquities, and layered texture combine to create an elegant, timeless aesthetic.
The design is rooted in the vision of bringing the outdoors in. It draws inspiration from the tranquil, organic beauty surrounding landscapes. Wood, stone and wool are paired with earthy colors and tactile finishes to evoke the elegance of British countryside. The result is an elegant blend of modern luxury and tradition, with guests feeling both grounded in nature and enveloped by the distinct style of the Britannic explorer.
The 18 cabins of the train, which include three Grand Suites (the largest) and 15 Suites (the smallest), have all been designed and crafted in Britain to make your journey as memorable as your destination. The sweeping views from Britain’s rugged coasts and rolling mountains are transformed into a visual treat. The experience is unmatched in luxury and comfort, whether guests opt to relax in their cabins, enjoy the spa onboard, or dine on delicious food in the elegant restaurant and hotel cars.
MEET THE MAKERS
The project brought together Britain’s most celebrated artisans and designers in a collaboration that honors the art of handcrafting through bespoke commissions. Each contributor was carefully chosen for their unique vision and ability elevate the Britannic’s interiors.
Luke Edward Hall is a leading British designer who is known for his ability to combine classical motifs and contemporary vibrancy. Luke, working with Albion Nord and Rubelli, reinterpreted the fabric in a whimsical illustrative style inspired by things guests see during their travels. From botanicals to landmarks. The wallpaper in the Double Suites, and the custom-made armchairs of the Grand Suites feature his design. In the Grand Suites, the artistic journey continues with bold contemporary panels by Brixton’s Olly Fathers. He is known for his geometric abstractions and Marcus James’s intricate multicoloured pen drawings of dramatic landscapes in the Lake District.
Designer Rose Uniacke has added her understated elegance and signature to the organic lighting fittings. Mel Campion, a shell artist, created the exquisite mirrors in the Powder Rooms. Sarah Woods has created meditative paintings and prints in muted tones that depict a relaxing beach landscape. Ed Burkes’ colourful depictions, which include dancing figures and a playful feel, bring life to the dining carriages. Adam Halls’ multi-layered and hand-dyed fabric pieces, inspired by lichens and algae in nature, are mounted onto the wall panelling.
Together, they create a tapestry rich in British design. Each detail adds to the journey of style, artistry, character, and creativity.
