The team then asked users to rate their city’s friendliness on a scale of 1-10, taking into account factors such as “frequency of positive interaction with strangers,” the likelihood of getting help when needed and the general friendliness among locals. The data for each factor was combined to create each city’s score out of 10 which, according to the team, “blended quantitative data with lived experiences of the locals.”
After all this work, the name San Diego The friendliest city in the country with a score 8.67 out 10.
The team added that San Diego, in southern California, exemplifies “qualities which make communities feel at home.” San Diego is also a great place to visit because of its “beach vibes,” surf-friendly beaches, and relaxed locals. It also doesn’t hurt that its average year-round temperature is somewhere between 50°F and 77°F, making it a near-guarantee that when you do visit, you’ll get to experience it in all its outdoor-loving glory.
Second place goes to Raleigh, North CarolinaIt was noted as a place where “comfort and cutting-edge innovation meet” and “where warm greetings are as commonplace as sweet tea.”
The third place is taken by Phoenix, where the sunny weather makes people happy. The team notes that the residents have a “can-do” attitude in every interaction.
Other hotspots include Miami, which is ranked fourth, Houston, Honolulu, Boston, San Jose, California, Minneapolis, and Denver.
Wichita in Kansas was ranked last by the team as a destination that could benefit from a little happiness. If you go and show a little kindness to the locals, maybe you can boost their happiness score for next year.
