    Cloudbeds published the first ever study on AI hotel recommendation as generative AI is reshaping the travel industry

    Cloudbeds is the AI-powered hotel platform that has just released its latest release. The Signals Behind Hotel AI RecommendationsFirst comprehensive study in the hospitality sector to examine how AI-based platforms suggest hotels to travelers.

    AI has fundamentally changed the way that guests search for and book accommodations. Understanding these algorithms is critical for hotel visibility as travelers are increasingly using AI assistants to provide personalized recommendations instead of traditional search methods. revenue generation.

    This study was conducted in six global destinations, using hundreds automated queries. It analyzed 145 properties that consistently ranked high to determine the factors behind AI hotel recommendations. The study identifies 5 strategies that hotels can use to gain visibility. These include curating a strategy OTA portfolio, optimizing the hotel website for accuracy and detailed information, prioritizing review platform reputation management, expanding their digital footprint and emphasizing brand storytelling.

    The study’s key findings:

    • OTAs dominate AI sources: Tripadvisor was the most cited OTA, followed by Booking.com and Expedia.
    • Branded properties are a clear winner: These properties had 4.43 percentage points more visibility than independent hotels.
    • Strong reputation is essential: All recommended properties have high guest reviews and excellent ratings across major platforms. An average sentiment score of 75 is achieved.
    • Digital presence is essential The AI values a wide online presence, as 98% of the recommended properties were on YouTube, 97% on travel blogs and 95% on Reddit.

    The study was conducted using AI monitoring tools across ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini – platforms that collectively account for an estimated 98% of AI-driven website traffic. Researchers studied citation patterns and sentiment analysis as well as digital footprints to determine the factors that influence AI recommendations.
