There are many beautiful beaches in the Caribbean, so when one of them is ranked number one it’s a big deal. World’s 50 Best Beaches has just published its ranking of the world’s best beaches. A stunning spot in the Dominican Republic was ranked No. 6 in the world—and No. The Caribbean is No. Find out more.
A lush palm grove and crystal clear water are waiting for you at Canto de la PlayaA hidden gem that has recently been named No. One of the Caribbean’s best beaches, named by The World’s 50 Best Beaches.
Located on Saona Island, just off the southeastern end of the Dominican Republic, the serene escape is about as remote as it gets. If you are one of many tourists vacationing in Punta CanaYou’ll have to take a bus for 50 minutes to Bayahibe. From there, you can board a boat and visit the beautiful beaches on the island.
Canto de la Playa is a beautiful beach on the island of Saona. It stands out because of its tropical vegetation and lack of commercial activity. The site says that the area is “untouched, pristine and offers a peaceful retreat where visitors can explore vibrant coral reefs and swim in calm water.” “The sand feels soft, and some say the water is one of the most clear and turquoise in the Caribbean.”
Saona Island is part of Cotubanamá National Park, a protected area known for its coral formations, mangroves, lagoons, and coastal environments. And depending on your exact method of transportation—most travelers opt for a private boat tour or a group catamaran trip—you may also stop in the island’s only inhabited village, Mano Juan, prior to exploring the mile-long beach.
If you don’t have a guide, you can choose to hike from Mano Juan. Or you can hire a private boat and travel directly to Canto De La Playa. Be sure to pack sunscreen, water, snacks and snorkeling gear. There are no beach bars, restaurants, or restrooms on this stretch of undeveloped sand.
The team asked a group travel professionals to vote on their favorite beaches in order to compile the World’s 50 Best Beaches. A panel of judges and beach ambassadors helped determine the final ranking after the data was collected. They also considered other criteria, including wildlife, how crowded a beach is, as well as if the noise on the shoreline goes beyond the sound of the ocean.
While Canto de la Playa—the team described as a destination that’s “perfect for those seeking to experience the natural charm of the Caribbean in its purest form—was the top beach destination in this part of the world, it came in sixth place overall. The top five beaches were PK 9 Beach, Fteri Beach, Bang Bao Beach, Entalula Beach, and Cala Goloritze, all in Italy.
