Whitbread, the owner of Premier Inns in the UK, reported a decline in accommodation sales during its first fiscal quarter. Whitbread is now trying to counteract this by charging for upgrades and other add-ons.
The UK accommodation industry revenue fell by 2% in the three months ending May 29. RevPAR dropped 2% and occupancy fell to 78.6%.
Whitbread CEO Dominic Paul stated on Thursday’s earnings conference that trading “was done against a backdrop of softer demand”.
