Scandic, in partnership with Vasakronan and the city of Uppsala, plans to build a 236 room hotel that is modern and stylish. The hotel will be built in the rapidly growing Södra City (Southern City) area. The new hotel, in addition to having a bar, gym and flexible meeting rooms, will also have a large restaurant that overlooks stunning park areas.

The parties have agreed to a long-term rental agreement that includes a brand-new Scandic hotel of 236 rooms. The hotel will have a large meeting capacity, with seven rooms. One of the larger ones can hold up to 200 people.

The hotel will have a high standard and be centrally located in Uppsala’s dynamic Södra City area on the “green line” extending from the central station to the Fyrisån River. It will also be close to the Uppsala University Hospital, the Studenternas sports ground and the popular Stadsträdgården park that features Flustret, a historic restaurant and event venue. It will appeal to both business and leisure travelers, as well as larger meetings and smaller events.

This property will be developed as a mixed use building that combines both hotel and offices. Hotel guests and office tenants can share the lobby area and entrance. The ground floor will include a restaurant, a bar, and outdoor seating. Hotel guests will also have access to a 100-square-meter gym with all the necessary equipment.

Uppsala is a city where students, researchers and culture all come together. With just 30 minutes to Stockholm and 18 minutes to Arlanda Airport, Uppsala is a central hub in the rapidly growing Stockholm-Mälaren region, which generates around 40 percent of Sweden’s GDP. Its proximity to Stockholm and Arlanda makes Uppsala a great weekend destination for cultural travelers, couples, and families.

Construction is expected to start in the fall of 2025. The grand-opening date will be the second quarter 2028. The hotel building will be sustainability-certified according to LEED, with a target of Platinum, and the operations of the hotel will meet the requirements for Nordic Swan Ecolabel certification – the official environmental label of the Nordic countries, which the majority of Scandic’s hotels already hold.

The new hotel in the Södra City area will complement Scandic’s two existing hotels in Uppsala: Scandic Uppsala Nord (184 rooms) and Scandic Uplandia (151 rooms).
