    This Airline Abruptly Shut Down Leaving Caribbean-bound Travelers Completely Stranded—What to Know

    The airline said in a message to its customers that “Silver has entered into a contract to sell assets to another airline company holding, which unfortunately, has decided to discontinue Silver’s flight operation in Florida and the Bahamas.” 

    Silver Airways is facing financial problems, but travelers were unaware of this and had booked tickets for upcoming trips. They even checked in successfully for their flight the night before the shutdown.

    Some travelers have expressed frustrations with the airline in the past, claiming to be stranded on the Bahamas.

    Seaborne Airlines operated a large route network that connected Florida, Puerto Rico and the Bahamas as well as other Caribbean islands. Silver Airways acquired Seaborne Airlines (which is known to many visitors) in 2018. 

    Many airlines offer rebooking services for travelers who are in a situation where they need to rebook. American Airlines, Cape Air JetBlue Spirit and United Airlines all offer flights to St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
