    Dalhousie Castle Hotel to undergo £5 million renovation

    UK: Dalhousie Castle Hotel (Dalhousie), Scotland’s oldest inhabited castleUnder new ownership,, will undergo renovations.

    Dalhousie is a 800-year-old property situated along the River Esk at Bonnyrigg. ScotlandA private investor from Dundee in Scotland recently bought. 

    With a budget of £5 million, the renovation will include an increase in bedrooms from 35 to 38, a new bar lounge in the Alexander Suite, a renovated lounge for all day dining, a single cask whiskey cellar and a remodelled library. 

    The renovation will be led by ISA Architects and is expected to finish at the end of the summer 2025. 

    7 Hospitality Management operates the property and has named Philip Egan general manager.

    Egan stated: “It is an honor to join Dalhousie Castle at this exciting time of change. The castle has a rich history and a lot of potential. “I’m thrilled to be working with the team on a refreshed, reimagined and future-focused experience that honors the castle’s legacy.”

    Conner Hutchison added: “We’re thrilled to welcome Philip as a member of the 7 Hospitality Management family. Dalhousie castle is a historically unique and significant property. A leader who can understand both tradition and change will be vital. Philip’s depth of experience and vision will be key in bringing our £5 million refurbishment project to life and enhancing every aspect of the guest journey.”

    Highlights: 

    • Dalhousie Castle Hotel, Scotland’s oldest inhabited castle, is undergoing a £5 million renovation after being purchased by a Dundee-based private investor.

    • Renovations include expanding from 35 to 38 bedrooms, adding a new bar lounge, all-day dining lounge, single cask whiskey cellar and a library. 

    • ISA Architects will lead the renovation, with most work expected to be completed by the end of summer 2025.
