Hotel leaders say the U.S. is squandering its tourism potential — and global hotel giants are increasingly looking abroad for growth, particularly India, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.
Anthony Capuano of Marriott International highlighted these challenges on Monday. A decade ago, foreign travelers spent $50 billion more in the U.S. than Americans spent abroad.
This has been reversed. According to U.S. Travel Association the U.S. is now experiencing a $50 billion travel deficit.
Capuano spoke on stage at the NYU International Hospitality Investment Forum, in New York.
Capuano stated, “We have a decade worth of incredible global tentpoles events coming up.” “We have the World Cup. LA Olympics. Utah has the Olympics. We need to simplify visas.
