Local groups and environmentalists are voicing their opposition to a plan for a new, ultra-luxury resort on the Bahamas. They warn that the project could harm vital marine ecologies which help combat climate change.
The Rosewood Exuma resort is scheduled to open in 2028, on East Sampson Cay. This 124-acre island private in the Exumas. Developed by Miami firm Yntegra the project features 33 luxury suites and a 20,000-square foot wellness center. It also includes multiple pools, two marinas, and a wellness center.
The resort also has a 150-unit housing facility for employees. Yntegra claims that the resort will create 500 jobs in the local community and help to support it.
The solar-powered device promises to counteract environmental damage, restoring three times more marine life in comparison to the amount of disturbance it causes.
Critics say this is not enough.
