Kayak was one of first travel companies in 2023 to adopt generative AI, launching a ChatGPT plug-in. The plugin has been discontinued but the company has launched a few other experiments including a chatbot that searches for travel deals and a price checking tool.
Yaron Ziidman, a former CTO at Booking Holdings brand Agoda, was named Kayak’s chief technology officer in the last month. Zeidman, previously CTO at Agoda – another Booking Holdings brand – is overseeing the launch of Kayak’s latest initiative: a new AI-powered trip planning site called Kayak.ai.
Kayak.ai’s trip planner includes a chatbot which can search for flights and hotels on Kayak. If a user chooses a flight or a hotel in the chatbot it will open a link to Kayak.com.
It’s hard to know what the final goal will be because all of the new AI technology is still shaping.
