Expedia Group has released a new study that shows the evolution of global travel trends. The 2025 Traveler Value Index highlights how travel plans, values, and preferences have changed dramatically compared to the previous years. The Index is based upon insights from more than 11,000 consumers in eleven global markets. It shows a rise in social media influence on travel decisions, and the continued importance of loyalty programs and trust in the booking processes.

The 2025 Traveler Value Index: Key Findings

    1. Travel is still a top priorityTravel remains the top priority of many consumers despite global uncertainty. The Index reveals that 88% consumers plan a leisure trip in the coming year and 68% intend to book an international vacation, which is a 19% rise from 2022.

    2. Price and TrustPrice is still a major factor when it comes to travel decisions. 58% of consumers expect to be more price conscious in the coming year. But trust is also a key factor. 75% of travelers are willing to spend more on accommodations that have better reviews.

    3. Use of social media is increasingThe study also reveals a significant increase in social media use for inspiration. Around 61% travelers today find trip inspiration on social platforms compared to just 35% by 2022. 73% of travelers also admit that recommendations from influencers have influenced them to make a booking.

    4. Loyalty programs are growing.Loyalty Programs continue to be an important part of the booking process. The Index shows that 83% travelers view travel as their preferred category for redeeming points and 82% of them are open to bookings through loyalty programs other than travel.

    5. Differences in generation and regionThis research highlights regional differences and generational differences when it comes to travel preferences. China, Germany and the UK have the highest likelihood of planning international trips in the next 12 month. Many younger travelers, especially those under 40, combine their work with leisure by choosing bleisure and flexcation trips.
