No one can deny that some of these best restaurants Lisbon is currently the most talked about place in Europe. It may seem sudden to some, but Lisbon’s growth as a foodie hotspot began some time ago—Prado Opening in late 2017, 100 Maneiras In 2019, Belcanto was ranked on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. Since then, the number of people visiting the city’s cobbled streets has increased rapidly, making it one of Europe’s most popular foodie destinations. The good news is that the openings will not slow down anytime in the near future.

Where should you go to eat in Lisbon, then? Before I visited the city for the first time, I knew very little of Portuguese cuisine—aside from pastel de natas—of course. After spending many years in the city, I have come to appreciate everything it has to offer. Many visitors will be interested in trying some traditional food, such as the bacalhau or prego (beef and pork sandwiches) or bifana or prego (salted fish). Some people who are more familiarized with the city will prefer to dine at one of the Michelin starred or modern restaurants.

Just like the city itself, Lisbon’s food scene is varied and exciting—and you can go from knocking back ginjinha (cherry liqueur) with locals to sipping wine at a tasting menu within 24 hours. These are the Lisbon restaurants that I would recommend (in no particular sequence) to anyone visiting the City.
