Summer travel is a hotbed of flavorful destinations
Airbnb was chosen by 1 in 5 global guests because they were looking for a more local experience.2. Travelers are choosing to avoid the summer crowds this summer and opt for local, more affordable foodie locations. According to a recent Panterra consumer survey, nearly half of travelers (47%) prioritize authentic local food as their favorite food and beverage experience.3
Fans are chasing stars and stadiums to increase their travel.
Fans are increasingly traveling to see their favorite musicians and athletes. Many of them travel great distances, and even fly across the country, in order to experience the excitement. Panterra’s survey of consumers revealed that “star chasers” are a growing trend. These travelers follow their favorite artists and athletes by attending concerts and sporting events, often traveling great distances to be immersed in the action.5:
- A quarter of participants expect to travel more in the coming year for major events, especially in Brazil (45%), Mexico(38%) and the US (30%).
- Concerts are the second most popular event that inspires people to travel after family reunions. 23% of respondents said they would travel for a concert.
- The younger women find concerts more appealing than their male counterparts. 33% of Gen Z females want to travel to concerts, compared to 24% of Gen Z males.

- Charlotte, NC United States Searches have surged +200% Sharkira will be performing in May9.
- Santiago, Chile Searches have surged 85% Kylie Minogue concert dates August10.
These summer events attract thousands of visitors.11 They’re likely generate positive economic impacts for local host, communities and businesses like restaurants and shops. A 2024 survey found that Airbnb guests spent $165 USD on average per day at local restaurants, grocery stores, and attractions. In addition, Airbnb hosts can help make sure that more neighborhoods are able to benefit from guest spending. In 2024, guests reported that 40% of their spending took place in the area of their Airbnb listing.12.
US travelers are increasingly opting for spontaneous stayscations
The US guest is prioritizing staycations this summer. They are looking for trips that are within 300 miles of their homes.13. The US staycation market is dominated by groups and families, with over 60% of searches for nearby hotels.14. Panterra’s survey of consumers also reveals the following:
- 43% of Americans will drive instead of fly on their next trips15.
- 39% of Americans have indicated that they travel domestically or will very likely do so in the future to save on airfare.16.
- 29% Americans with children living at home aged 18 or under report that they have already chosen to travel within the country, or very likely will do so.17.
