Foldie, a versatile, all-in-one travel bag is what you need. At first glance, it looks like your standard zippered tote bag, but it’s actually much, much more: Not only can it be expanded by 25%—transforming it into an ideal size for a weekend’s worth of essentials—it also collapses down into a small pouch when empty, meaning you can toss it into your carry-on just in case. Although it is not the most fashionable bag on the market, its many features make up for that. These include its water and tear resistant fabric, its dedicated water bottle and its detachable, padded crossbody strap.

Destinations editorial assistant Kat Chen Foldie, to her, is a “do-it all football.” It’s something that she can easily slip under the airplane seat or into her arm. On a recent trip to the British Virgin IslandsChen managed to pack four days worth of clothing, four chargers, two notebooks, a Bible thick book, and a toiletry bag. There was also room for souvenirs. The bag has an exterior zippered pocket that can be used to store extras like your phone, sunscreen, and sunglasses. In a meta sense, it has become a staple in my arsenal of bags. just-in-case essentials Chen says that the bag can be expanded to carry as much as I need, whether it’s an extra handful or armful.
