Many thanks a new direct Air France flight added to my home airport, Orlando (MCO)I’m planning to go to Paris for the first time this summer. Orlando and the City of Lights were not directly connected for over 10 years. Now that nonstop flights run four days a weeks, I will be visiting my favourite European city more often, particularly during Florida’s hot months. I have been to Paris several times and I thought I had the knack of finding the best places. ultimate Paris packing list It was a great outfit, but I soon realized that it would be a challenge to wear in the heat and unpredictable weather.

So, to help me pack, I turned to a Paris-based fashion and style expert: Morgane Sézalory, the founder of the French fashion brand Sézane. I always look to Sézane when I need to add versatile basics to my closet because the garments are well-tailored, crafted from high-quality fabrics, and designed specifically to pair together. These styles are feminine, timeless, and designed to last. They transcend fast-fashion trends. I used her summer fashion advice to create a Paris packing checklist that’s stylish, comfortable and functional.

    A White Blouse

“What defines quintessential Parisian summer style?” is my first question for Sézalory. She describes herself as thoughtful and unfussy. She says, “It’s about your intuition and less about the latest trends.” She gives an example of this white embroidered blouse from Sezane The sandals should be worn in. She says that minimalist makeup is the best accessory, adding, “A little blush can go a long ways.” You can achieve that desired French flush with a little bit of makeup. Ilia Beauty’s Multi Stick, plus an swipe of Typology’s Tinted Balm I found similar tops perfect for summer, including a halterneck. I found tops that are perfect for the summer including one with a cotton poplin blouse from J.Crew A boatneck tee from Madewell.

    A crisp, white button-down shirt

A white button-down is a great alternative to a white shirt. It adds movement and weight to your outfit, which makes it perfect for evening wear. “Pack light, breathable staples,” Sézalory says. “I prefer a crisp shirt such as our Max Shirt.” The designer recommends also paying attention to fabrics, saying it is best stick to lighter materials like linen and cotton. She says that they keep you comfortable and cool, wherever the day may take you. After hearing this, I am looking at these polished button down shirts for my suitcase. silky cotton top from Everlane You can also find out more about Quince’s breathable linen option.

    Cotton Dress

Dresses must be comfortable and effortless to wear. They should not feel lazy. If you are packing for summer in Paris you should choose a dress that you can wear in the morning, but still look beautiful at dinner. This is especially important if you don’t have time to return to your hotel and change. “What I love about Paris is its versatility—what you wear by day you can easily wear by night,” Sézalory says. She recommends the versatile Sezane Dorotha chambray dressI also like cotton dresses with a similar style, which are easy to wear, such as these Mango white midi style This is what you can do fit and flare number from Gap.

    A Linen Set

Creamy linen sets come to mind when I think about summers in southern France. A linen set is also popular in Paris. Sézalory says she likes to pair a matching set A big woven bag like the Justine basket bagThis look brings to mind the style icon Jane Birkin. Linen sets have become a staple for summer travel, and I will wear them again and again. Tailored shorts

Americans may be accustomed to wearing cargo shorts and casual cut-offs during the summer at the lake. But frayed shorts do not fit in with European fashion in general or in Paris. Pack tailored shorts that have pleats and a high-waist, with room around the legs. “You want to feel free but still pulled together,” Sézalory says, pointing to Sézane cuts like the cotton Rome style. Another option that will keep your cool and still look polished this summer is a pair pleated shorts from Quince Or a linen-blend pair of Bermuda shorts from Mango.

    Wide-leg Jeans

A pair of loose-fitting, wide-leg jeans is a sensible addition to your summer packing list. Paris is hot in August, and temperatures can reach 80 degrees Fahrenheit during the peak of the day. The temperature will drop to 60 degrees after sunset. The white blouse with white button down will pair nicely with a comfortable pair of jeans. Sézalory mentioned a pair of classic blue denim trousers They’re not the ones I’m looking at, but they are on my radar. ecru And this faded light blue denim too. This is also something I love. high-waisted pick at J.Crew A stylish split-hem style at Banana Republic.

    Comfortable Flats

The perfect white shoe is a topic of discussion amongst many people. Adidas Sambas or Gazelles? Vionic or Veja? But Sézalory says, “I’ve never really been a sneaker girl. It’s about comfort for me. But I never sacrifice style. Instead of sneakers she prefers ballets flats or low-heeled footwear. She notes that she can “still walk all over Paris” in Sézane’s Isabelle clogs The right amount of height can be added with the right flats. Instead of wearing sneakers, choose stylish flats to support the Parisian principle that outfits can be worn from day to evening. I’m looking for staples like Everlane’s understated ballet flat You can also find out more about the following: Quince’s Italian leather flat This will fit in with my entire wardrobe and be comfortable enough to wear every day.

    Leather Sandals

“Mix pieces you love, whether new or vintage, in a way that feels personal,” says Sézalory, which had me dreaming of a simple white ensemble paired with my favorite well-worn leather sandals. Nothing is more comfortable than shoes which have been worn to the exact shape of your foot. Other sandals include Everlane’s suede fisherman sandals You can also find out more about Quince’s platform sandals It will go with almost anything.

    A Crossbody Bag

As a big fan of Paris’s Velib public bikes, I could relate to Sézalory’s suggestion to pack a good crossbody bag for visiting the city. It will make it easier for you to use your bike. Paris weather is unpredictable. A water-resistant bag or waterproof bag will keep the contents dry. Consider an option that allows you to choose from a variety of sizes. doubles as a fanny pack Or a shoulder bag This can be worn on your entire body.

    Large Tote

As a mom of three, Sézalory uses a tote or a basket bag for running errands and carrying everything she needs. A roomy bag is useful even when you are a tourist in Paris. It will help you to keep your essentials nearby or do some shopping. Sézalory mentioned the Justine basket bagA canvas tote bag, like the one from is a great option. It’s made of raffia and feels summery. Plus, it has a drawstring inside so that its contents don’t fall out when it bumps around in your bike basket. Canvas tote bags, such as this one from Athleta. The zipper offers plenty of security, and the. Quince’s puffer bag Expandable design allows you to use it as a personal item in the aircraft.

    Silk Scarf

When you go to Paris, leave your baseball caps behind. “Instead of hats, you’ll often see a silk scarf around the neck, in the hair, or tied to a bag—yes, even at the height of summer,” says Sézalory. Silk is a light fabric that feels wonderful on the skin during the summer. I use a scarf to cover up frizzy or sweaty hair. Floral Print

When I was packing for Paris in the fall, my list included olives, burgundies and browns. But, when it came to summer, I didn’t know what colors and patterns to bring. When choosing colors and prints, Sézalory says to “think soft shades, the occasional bold accent, and classic prints like florals.” This advice has me looking at dresses and tops with floral prints. pretty floral prints You can also find out more about the following: delicate embroidery That have a romantic timeless quality (and I will be searching for them in Paris’ massive flea market Marche du Puce).

    Gingham

France has a reputation for loving a classic stripe, but Sézalory reminded me of another neutral pattern to reach for during the summer—gingham. In choosing colors and prints for summer, Sezalory says “it’s more timeless touches than making an impact.” Gingham has been everywhere this summer, whether in the form of a shirt or a dress. tank top, vest, pants—you name it.

    Simple Gold Jewelry

Accessories are a key part of the Parisian style. A piece can be dressed up by simply swapping a silk scarve for some jewelry. “Versatility matters in a city where plans change fast,” Sézalory says. I can attest to the scenario of being 45 minutes from my hotel but needing an outfit change for an impromptu party—having the right jewelry on hand could’ve easily done the trick. “Lately, I’ve loved incorporating bold, playful jewelry—just one fun piece can completely shift the feel of an outfit built on good basics,” adds Sézalory. In terms of my packing list, a pair or gold earrings will be on it. globe hoops You can also find out more about gold-plated brass earrings.

    Weather-ready Trench

There’s no garment more versatile than a trench coat, and Sézalory says they come in handy in the summer, too. It’s important to pick a lightweight trench with water-resistant qualities so you are prepared for any unpredictable weather. Pack pieces that “handle heat and a surprise downpour equally well,” Sézalory says. “Paris’ weather can be moody. You shouldn’t have to worry about your clothes. It doesn’t matter if it’s a long belted number Or a cropped style This year-round staple will make your life easier by reducing the amount of fabric you have to manage.
