She adds, “My 98 year old grandmother still lives on the island all year round.”

Goldson has been a Vineyarder for her entire life. She is well-versed in social events, local efforts, and even simple pleasures such as meeting up with friends for a brunch or bike ride. The island’s peak tourism will see the continuation of these vineyard-inspired fashion styles through the remainder of summer and into the fall. Goldson says that visitors should ditch formal clothing and opt for something more comfortable when it comes to dressing on Martha’s Vineyard. 

“Vineyard Style is all about comfort.” It’s light, comfortable and summery. She says to “think whites or pastels. Also, think soft blues. What I love the most is you can change from a breezy, light dress to a hoodie with jeans or a t-shirt at night. It’s cool without trying to hard.”

The best part about an island vacation is that you don’t really need heels. Goldson suggests flats that are both comfortable and stylish, like Freda Salvador’s Fisherman Sandals. The leather soles are designed to increase durability and the shoes have real flowers embedded in each panel. “I don’t pack heels, despite the fact that I love them in NYC. “Think flats with woven texture, a splash or color, or subtle platform,” she says.

She brought her best Vineyard looks. “The dress code was Vineyard chic—long dress, flowy, but definitely a statement piece,” says Goldson. “As a 5th generation Vineyarder this is much more than an occasion. This is my way to give back to the place that has shaped me. “This island is a part of my legacy and this celebration is a continuation of that.” The final look she wore for the event was inspired in part by pastel floral prints and soft florals.
